Atlus' Hashino revealed his desire to develop a Sengoku period-set game, envisioning it as a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) potentially inspired by the Basara series. While there are currently no concrete plans for a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as a third major JRPG series alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming for it to become a flagship Atlus title. Although a sequel isn't currently in development, the team is already working on their next project, distinct from Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved remarkable success, boasting a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961—surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
