Metroid Prime 4, Announced Back in 2017, Has Pre-Orders Cancelled by Amazon

Amazon recently canceled pre-orders for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, notifying customers via email. This article explores the situation and its potential impact on the game's 2025 release.
Amazon Cancels Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Pre-Orders
Full Refunds Issued

Reports surfaced on January 11, 2025, across various online forums, indicating Amazon was canceling Metroid Prime 4 pre-orders. Screenshots show Amazon citing "lack of availability" as the reason for cancellation, assuring customers of a full refund within one to two business days.

While disappointing for some fans who pre-ordered since the game's 2017 announcement, the cancellation doesn't signal the game's cancellation. It simply means the title is temporarily unavailable for pre-order through Amazon. For more details on Metroid Prime 4, check out our dedicated article!
A Look Back at Metroid Prime 4's Development

Initially announced at E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4’s early development notably excluded Retro Studios, the developer behind previous entries. Nintendo initially remained silent on the development team.
Two years later, in January 2019, Nintendo announced a development restart under Retro Studios. Shinya Takahashi, senior managing executive officer, explained that the progress at that time didn't meet their standards for a Metroid Prime sequel.

A full gameplay trailer debuted during a June 2024 Nintendo Direct, revealing the game's official title, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and its 2025 release window. The trailer showcased Sylux, the antagonist, leading Space Pirates.
Nintendo reaffirmed the 2025 release in a January 3, 2025 news post. While Amazon's cancellation might raise concerns, this statement strongly suggests the game remains on track for release this year.
The upcoming Switch 2 announcement adds another layer of intrigue, leaving the question of whether the game will launch on the original Switch or its successor unanswered for now.
