MindLight: New Android Horror Survival Neurofeedback Game

MindLight isn't your typical spooky adventure game; it's an innovative action-adventure game developed by PlayNice that goes beyond mere entertainment. It's designed to help kids manage stress and anxiety through the use of biofeedback—a technique that bridges the mind and body to enhance physical and mental well-being. In MindLight, your emotional state directly influences the gameplay. When you're calm, the dark mansion becomes illuminated, making it easier to navigate and fend off the lurking shadow creatures. Conversely, if anxiety takes hold, the mansion remains shrouded in shadows, heightening the game's eerie atmosphere.
MindLight: More Than Just a Game
Co-developed by Dr. Isabela Granic, co-founder of PlayNice and a leading scientist, MindLight has been rigorously tested in several randomized control trials involving over a thousand children. The results are compelling: kids who played MindLight experienced a reduction in anxiety by at least 50%. The game's narrative is straightforward yet engaging—you play as a child venturing through your grandmother's mansion, which is engulfed by shadows. Equipped with a headset, the game monitors your brainwaves or heart rate in real-time, using light as your tool to explore the mansion and ward off menacing creatures.
While the trials focused on children aged 8 to 12, PlayNice notes that the game has also been well-received by older kids and parents. The game's real-time adaptation to each player's stress response ensures a personalized and dynamic experience for everyone.
Getting Started with MindLight
To dive into the world of MindLight, you'll need two key components: the Neurosky MindWave 2 EEG headset and a subscription to the game. PlayNice offers two subscription options—one tailored for a single child and another for families accommodating up to five players. You can easily access MindLight through various platforms, including the Google Play Store, Amazon store, App Store, and directly from PlayNice's official website.
