Minecraft Movie's Funniest Scene Inspired by The NeverEnding Story

Minor spoilers ahead for A Minecraft Movie.
The creative minds behind A Minecraft Movie shared with IGN that one of the film's most humorous scenes was inspired by the classic film The NeverEnding Story. In this memorable scene, Jack Black's character, Steve, is forced to ride on Jason Momoa's character, Garrett, due to a shortage of Elytra wings, which are only available for Garrett and Sebastian Hansen's character, Henry. This setup leads to a hilarious display of physical comedy as Steve struggles to maintain his grip, preventing a perilous fall from hundreds of feet.
"We definitely wanted to capture a Falkor moment from The Neverending Story that was both majestic and beautiful, but also one that goes south pretty quickly," said A Minecraft Movie director Jared Hess."It was hilarious during the breaks between takes," added producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson. "Jack was perched on top of Jason in this intricate rig, and he started singing the theme from The NeverEnding Story, treating Jason like he was riding Falkor."
This scene is particularly amusing because Jack Black previously played the character Slip in The NeverEnding Story 3, adding a delightful layer of nostalgia. For Jason Momoa, this scene was a chance to contribute creatively.
"I had a hand in writing that scene, and Jack was all in," Momoa shared with a laugh. "This was after Top Gun: Maverick, so I wanted to incorporate some high-speed action where I could hit the brakes and Jack would slide off. We were brainstorming in the hotel, laughing about this stunt, and it ended up in the movie—it's phenomenal."
"There were different versions of that scene, and I'm not sure which made the final cut," Jack Black remarked. "It could have been rated R, but we opted for a family-friendly version!"

Momoa also humorously reenacted the moment from the set, which you can watch in the video.
"Let my hips guide you! You can't just ride me like I'm majestic," Momoa said. "I was dying, man. I was dying."
