Moonstone Deck Dominates Marvel SNAP

Quick Links

Moonstone, the newest Ongoing card in Marvel Snap, has the unique ability to copy the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. She's an enhanced version of Mystique, but her fragility has earned her the nickname "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP." Building a strong deck around Moonstone can be challenging, but after extensive testing, I've identified the two best decks: Patriot and Tribunal setups. This guide will help you build and optimize these decks effectively. If you're unsure about adding Moonstone to your collection, a brief review at the end will aid your decision.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone performs best in decks where she supports rather than leads. For a reliable setup, consider integrating Moonstone into a Patriot-Ultron deck, focusing on her copying one or two key Ongoing effects.

To construct a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Prepare the board for buffs by playing Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl.
  • Use one lane to play Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone (ideally in that order).
  • Play Ultron in the final round to fill all locations and benefit from the buffs one last time.
  • Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird serve as backup cards to make up for any power deficit in one or two lanes.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

For a thrilling yet less consistent gameplay, pair Moonstone with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. This setup uses Moonstone as a win condition alongside: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

The Living Tribunal69
Mystique30
Ravonna Renslayer22
Iron Man50
Captain America33
Howard the Duck12
Magik32
Psylocke22
Sera54
Iron Lad46

Here’s the ideal play line:

  1. Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
  2. Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man into her lane.
  3. In the final round, split the Power between all lanes with The Living Tribunal.

Psylocke and Sera help you play key cards earlier, while Magik extends the match, enabling the play of Onslaught, followed by The Living Tribunal. Captain America and Iron Lad act as backups if you don't draw the necessary cards in time.

Many players anticipated that Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal would become a staple in the metagame after her release, with some considering it her natural fit. However, few predicted her arch-nemesis in this setup: Super Skrull.

How to Counter Moonstone

Moonstone's vulnerability makes her an easy target for Super Skrull. Since her release, players have been adding Super Skrull to their decks, anticipating Moonstone decks, and it's proven effective. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo are also effective counters to Moonstone.

Moonstone's biggest drawback is that she absorbs the abilities of cards in her own lane. Unless you hide her behind cards like Invisible Woman, your opponent can easily shut down that lane with Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they could play Super Skrull in another lane to neutralize your strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her solid ability will become more valuable as more Ongoing cards that synergize with her are released; 2) She's in a Spotlight Cache alongside two other Series Five cards, reducing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She's one of the most nostalgic new cards to join Marvel Snap. If you miss the days of pulling off crazy combos that add massive numbers to the board, Moonstone is a card worth getting.
