James Gunn's new take on Superman promises an exciting addition to the DC Cinematic Universe, and alongside the Man of Steel, fans will get a fresh look at Nathan Fillion's interpretation of Green Lantern, specifically Guy Gardner. In a recent interview with TV Guide, Fillion shared insights into his unique portrayal of the character, revealing that this version of Guy Gardner won't be the typical charming hero.

"He's a jerk!" Fillion exclaimed, emphasizing that being a Green Lantern doesn't require goodness, just fearlessness. "What's important to know is, you don't have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless. So Guy Gardner is fearless, and he is not very good. He's not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you just think to yourself, what is the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment? And that's the answer. That's what you do in that moment."

Fillion further elaborated on Gardner's character, highlighting his overconfidence as a potential superpower. "I think if he has a superpower, it might be his overconfidence, in that he thinks he could take on Superman," he said. "He can't!"

This upcoming Superman film marks the first entry in a completely rebooted DC Cinematic Universe, ushering in the new chapter titled Gods and Monsters. Meanwhile, the Green Lanterns continue to capture interest beyond the big screen, with HBO developing a series called Lanterns, featuring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, slated for a 2026 premiere.

The cast of Superman is led by David Corenswet as Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, and Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor. Written and directed by James Gunn, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
