Nintendo Privacy Policy Update Says Switch 2 'May' Monitor and Record Audio and Video Chat Sessions — With Your Consent
With the highly anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 just around the corner, set for June 5, it's crucial for gamers to be aware of some new features that could impact their privacy. Nintendo has updated its privacy policy, as noted by NintendoSoup, stating that the console may record your audio and video chat sessions. This change aims to enhance security and safety within its services.
According to the revised privacy policy on Nintendo's website, the company explains that its services may enable users to create, upload, or share various forms of content, including text, images, audio, and video. The policy further elaborates, "With your consent, and to enforce our terms, we may also monitor and record your video and audio interactions with other users. When you use any of our services that include these or other similar capabilities, we may collect your content in accordance with our terms of use and this policy."
Nintendo emphasizes that users must consent to this monitoring and recording, suggesting there will be an opt-in feature when setting up the Switch 2. This update is significant as the console introduces new multiplayer communication options, highlighted by the innovative C button. This button allows players to instantly start chatting with friends using the built-in microphone on the Switch 2.
Additionally, the Switch 2 offers screen sharing for a couch co-op experience with friends remotely, and video streaming capabilities for those who opt for the new camera accessory. While the video quality might be on the lower end, it suffices for sharing your face and environment with friends during gameplay.
Apart from enhanced graphics and new control options resembling a mouse, voice and video chat are poised to be defining features of the Switch 2. As you prepare for this exciting tech launch, keep Nintendo's privacy policy changes in mind.
