"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls Enhance Home Menu Navigation"
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch 2 will support Joy-Con mouse controls on the Home screen, marking a major usability enhancement for the upcoming console. Ever since the Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed, players have been eager to learn more about the functionality of the next-gen Joy-Cons. Last month brought official confirmation that the new controllers can be used in “mouse mode,” allowing users to glide the Joy-Con across surfaces while using the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions—just like a traditional mouse. What’s more, two Joy-Con controllers can even be operated in mouse mode at the same time, either one in each hand or paired with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode.
Now, thanks to details shared via the Nintendo Today app and posted on X/Twitter, we know that this mouse functionality extends to navigating the Switch 2 Home menu. As demonstrated in a recent clip:

According to Nintendo, placing the Joy-Con 2 controller on a flat surface with the attachment side facing down will cause an on-screen cursor to appear. The company further explained: "To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown. While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus. Mouse controls are supported on the Home menu and in compatible software." When you're done with mouse navigation, simply rotate the Joy-Con back into a horizontal position to return to thumbstick control.
While full game compatibility remains under wraps, Nintendo has already showcased mouse mode working seamlessly in titles like Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the innovative sports title Drag x Drive.
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. Pre-orders opened on April 24 and quickly surged in popularity — as expected for such a major console release. Priced at $449.99, the system is available for reservation now. For complete details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
