Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders: Retail Measures to Curb Scalping
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025, and is expected to be in high demand. On its official store, Nintendo is introducing preorder safeguards to prioritize genuine Switch enthusiasts.
At the My Nintendo Store, users with a Nintendo Account can sign up to preorder a Nintendo Switch 2 console and select accessories. Registered users will receive an invitation email when their turn arrives, valid for 72 hours. However, eligibility requires significant prior Switch usage and a Switch Online subscription.
"Invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to those with at least 12 months of paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and 50 hours of gameplay by April 2, 2025," according to the store's terms.
Nintendo emphasizes that invitations are non-transferable and linked to the email tied to the registering Nintendo Account. There’s a one-per-account limit for the console and each accessory during the invitation phase. Currently, users can register interest for either the standard Nintendo Switch 2 or the bundle with Mario Kart World.
Orders will ship post-purchase, with estimated shipping dates provided at checkout. Nintendo notes: "Release-day delivery is not guaranteed due to processing and shipping timelines."
Though not explicitly stated, these steps appear designed to ensure Switch 2 buyers are genuine players, not resellers looking to profit online.
