Leaked GameStop SKUs Suggest Nintendo Switch 2 Will Support microSD Express Cards

Recent leaks point to a significant upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2: support for microSD Express cards. This revelation, stemming from GameStop's internal inventory system, hints at substantial improvements in storage technology compared to the original Switch.

The leaked SKUs, initially shared on Reddit, list "Switch 2 Exp Micro SD Card" products in 256GB and 512GB capacities. This strongly suggests compatibility with the microSD Express standard, a major leap forward from the Switch's UHS-I interface.

A Dramatic Speed and Capacity Boost

The difference between UHS-I and microSD Express is substantial. While UHS-I cards typically reach around 95 MB/s, microSD Express boasts speeds nearing 985 MB/s – a nearly tenfold increase. This speed enhancement is due to microSD Express's use of the NVMe protocol, the same technology powering high-performance SSDs.

The capacity advantage is equally impressive. UHS-I cards max out at 2TB, whereas microSD Express cards can reach up to 128TB – a massive jump. The leaked GameStop pricing suggests a 256GB card will retail for $49.99, and a 512GB card for $84.99.

The leak also includes SKUs for a standard Switch 2 carrying case ($19.99) and two "deluxe" cases ($29.99). These unofficial accessories further solidify the ongoing wave of Switch 2 leaks.

Nintendo has previously committed to unveiling its next console before the end of its fiscal year (March 31, 2025). With time running out, anticipation for an official announcement remains high.
