Nintendo Switch 2\'s Rumored C Button May Have a Weird Function [UPDATED]

Updated on January 14: This article's original Discord server link, incorrectly labeled "Nintendo Switch 2," has been corrected to reflect the actual source of the datamining.

Summary

Rumors suggest the Nintendo Switch 2's extra "C" button may be dedicated to chat functionality. Recent datamining reveals a feature codenamed "Campus," hinting at group and voice chat support for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. The official Switch 2 reveal is expected on January 16th.

The rumored "C" button on the Nintendo Switch 2 may be a dedicated chat button, according to a new report. This could solve a long-standing mystery surrounding the console's extra button.

Leaks since late 2024, likely due to mass production, consistently show the Switch 2 with an additional dark gray "C" button on the right Joy-Con, below the home button. However, its function remained unknown until now.

Datamining of the latest Switch OS, reported by a Discord server focused on Switch 2 news, uncovered references to a feature called "Campus." This appears to be a group and voice chat system for Nintendo Switch Online.

Nintendo Switch 2 Will Reportedly Support Screen Sharing

This same source indicates "Campus" will also include screen sharing, supporting up to 12 users in chat groups. While the codename starts with "C," the button's function is more likely "chat" than directly related to "Campus." This refutes the popular theory that the "C" button would be for screen casting.

Chat Support and the Switch's Kid-Friendly Design: A Potential Conflict

Since group and voice chats require online connectivity, they would likely be limited to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. This raises questions, given the original Switch's deliberate omission of such features to maintain a kid-friendly environment. Reintroducing chat could introduce complexities Nintendo might prefer to avoid.

The existence and purpose of the "C" button, along with other Switch 2 details, may be revealed soon. Multiple sources point to an official announcement this Thursday, January 16th.
