Nintendo Switch Games to Receive Upgrades for Switch 2, Including Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: almost the entire Nintendo Switch catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, a select group of games are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, packed with unique features. These lucky titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct upgrades. The showcase kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV". This upgrade brings innovative mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced haptic feedback described as "more expressive rumble", and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to receive graphical enhancements with improved resolution, higher framerates, and HDR support. These titles will also benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, and enables sharing of creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is getting a significant update with a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, alongside better graphics and framerates.

Two eagerly anticipated new releases, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast enhanced resolution and framerates.

All these upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Moreover, owners of the original versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs to enjoy the enhanced features on the Nintendo Switch 2.

4 ImagesFurther into the presentation, Nintendo announced that several third-party titles will also receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, featuring exclusive game modes for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The buzz about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games began last week with a subtle mention on a webpage related to the newly announced Virtual Game Card system. It noted that these upgraded games could not be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
