I feel fortunate to live in an era where I can witness these two fantastic worlds collide and merge in spectacular, almost Voltron-like, new forms. A particularly thrilling recent fusion is Monolith Board Game’s upcoming Berserk: The Board Game, which launched on Gamefound this month.

At the time of writing, the campaign has attracted nearly 5,900 backers and raised over €2 million, effortlessly slicing through its funding goal much like Guts bisects a demon with his Dragon Slayer sword. In Berserk: The Board Game, 1-5 players can wield the weapons of iconic characters like Serpico, Farnese, Isidro, Shierke, and, naturally, Guts to eliminate demonic adversaries. The entire crew is represented by highly detailed miniatures, perfect for painting enthusiasts. The plastic renditions of figures such as Grunbeld, the Grunbeld Apostle, Slan, and Makara are impressive, and with over 120 miniatures included, it's a goldmine for painters.

Devotees of the Berserk manga will appreciate the wealth of artwork drawn directly from the original series. Every action card in each character's deck showcases memorable scenes from the story, as do the intimidating enemy cards and other components. The core game includes an 11-act campaign set during the Millennium Falcon arc. Additionally, the Black Swordsman expansion, available during the campaign, enables players to craft their own adventures with a wide array of choices—from selecting party members to deciding which foes to confront.

Though board game adaptations, especially large-scale productions, are increasingly common, they typically draw from video games. Witnessing a legendary anime like Berserk receive this treatment is especially exciting. Monolith Board Games has a strong track record of translating well-known properties into cooperative tabletop experiences, having previously developed games based on Conan the Barbarian and Batman. Berserk, which combines dice rolling, card draws, and grid-based movement, appears poised to deliver another brutally enjoyable adventure.

This is unmistakably a premium offering: the core pledge starts at €200 (approximately $233), while the complete bundle, which includes all 184 miniatures, costs €335 (around $390). Gamefound provides a StretchPay option, allowing you to spread the cost over several months—a feature I've personally found extremely helpful for managing large purchases.
