Paradox Teases New Grand Strategy Game, Fans Speculate

May 28,25(11 months ago)

Paradox Interactive, the renowned developer behind Stellaris and Crusader Kings 3, is gearing up to unveil something "ambitious" next week. While specific details remain under wraps, the studio celebrated its 25-year legacy of creating strategy games that span from the Roman Empire to the cosmos. They are now poised to introduce the next significant title in this beloved genre.

The upcoming game, currently known by its codename "Caesar," has been the subject of much discussion on Paradox's forums through a series of "Tinto Talks" developer diaries. These diaries have invited community input on various aspects such as feature ideas, core game systems, and historical research. The anticipation is building as Paradox prepares to "reveal Caesar to the world."

The most recent "Tinto Talks," named after the Barcelona-based Studio Tinto developing the game, delved into the mechanics of Protestant religions and a "War of Religions" scenario involving Western Christian confessions. This was part of their "entirely super-top-secret game with the codename Project Caesar."

Hints dropped in the latest developer diary, along with the announcement that the reveal video will premiere on the official Europa Universalis YouTube channel, have led many to speculate that this mysterious project might be a new entry in the Europa Universalis series. However, nothing is confirmed yet, leaving fans to eagerly theorize about the connection.

On Reddit, one fan reminded others that "Dev Diaries haven't called it EU5 but everything we have been teased thus far heavily implies it." Another user, responding to the video channel announcement, teased, "There might've been clues along the way huh." The discussions have been ongoing for over a year, as one commenter explained, "It was an open secret for over a year thanks to the Tinto Talks Threads on Paradox forums."

To uncover the truth behind the rumors, tune into Paradox's reveal video on May 8, 2025, at 9am PDT (12pm EDT, 5pm UK time), and witness "a new era for grand strategy."

IGN's review of the last Europa Universalis game, Europa Universalis 4, was highly positive, awarding it an 8.9/10 and praising it for "bringing accessibility and flexibility to the strategy series without compromising its complexity."
