Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Indefinitely Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile 1 players for the indefinite postponement of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025, has been delayed due to the unexpected challenges encountered with the launch of Path of Exile 2.

GGG had previously committed to continued support for Path of Exile 1, even after the release of its sequel. However, the studio reassigned the Path of Exile 1 development team to assist with Path of Exile 2's endgame development before its December 2024 launch. While GGG initially believed they could return to Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update in time for a mid-February release, this proved unrealistic.

In a video message, game director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. Path of Exile 2's launch, while ultimately successful (becoming the 15th most-played game on Steam), experienced unforeseen crashes and balance issues requiring immediate attention. Rogers stated that diverting resources from Path of Exile 2 during these critical issues was not justifiable.

The Path of Exile 1 team will remain focused on addressing Path of Exile 2's problems until version 0.2.0 is released, likely followed by a couple of weeks of additional work. Rogers expressed regret for the situation and admitted to overconfidence in the studio's ability to manage two game updates simultaneously. He stated that GGG is developing a plan for the eventual release of Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, but a release date remains uncertain.
