DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a tantalizing snippet of new footage featuring John Cena in action. In the clip, Cena smirks at the camera with a fire blazing in the background, and someone tells him, "Peacemaker is a superhero now."

Gunn took to Twitter to express his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." He also mentioned finishing the DI & Mix on the premiere the day before, adding to the anticipation for the upcoming season.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the big-screen launch of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third entry in the DCU, succeeding last year's Creature Commandos TV series and this summer's Superman.

This revamped cinematic universe, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, moves away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker is a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season, while Season 2 will be part of the new DCU.

Gunn has previously stated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it's not yet clear which elements will transition from the DCEU to the DCU. He confirmed that all of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Furthermore, Gunn has indicated that the show will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events even influencing Peacemaker.
