The newly released trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 on Max has sparked excitement by deepening its ties to the Superman narrative, introducing key DC characters such as Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner right from the opening scene. The trailer showcases Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl in an interview setting, where they are evaluating John Cena's character, Peacemaker, for a potential superhero team. The interview takes a sour turn, leaving Peacemaker visibly upset as he exits the building.

These characters provide a glimpse into the upcoming James Gunn's Superman movie, set to premiere on July 11. Peacemaker Season 2 will follow, streaming on Max starting August 21, marking it as the third entry in the new DCU, following the Creature Commandos TV series.

The new DCU, crafted by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, is a departure from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, some elements from the old universe will persist. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, transitioning from the DCEU in its first season to the new DCU in its second.

James Gunn has emphasized continuity in Peacemaker's storyline, stating, "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes." While specifics on what will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU remain unclear, Gunn has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return, with the same cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's narrative.
