Players Threaten to Quit Infinity Nikki Over Controversial Update 1.5 Changes

May 02,25(6 months ago)

Infinity Nikki and its much-anticipated 1.5 update have hit Steam, but the launch has been overshadowed by a series of controversies and player backlash. Infold Games released the stylish dress-up adventure on Valve's digital platform after months of exclusivity on the Epic Game Store. What should have been a joyous occasion for fans turned sour due to a host of technical issues, unexpected design changes, and demanding new outfit requirements. In response, the developers have issued an apology and promised compensation, yet the struggle for Infinity Nikki's future is ongoing.

PC players eagerly awaited the Steam release of Infinity Nikki, but were met with a range of technical problems, from game crashes to overall instability. While such launch issues are not uncommon, the community's frustration extends beyond mere performance. The introduction of two new five-star outfits, Snowbound Ballad and Undying Ember, each requiring 11 pieces, has sparked concern. This means players could need up to 220 pulls—and potentially a significant financial investment—to complete these sets, a sharp increase from the norm and introduced without prior notice. Fears are mounting that future outfits might demand even more pieces.

Adding to the confusion, Infold extended the Crown of Miraland: Peak Arena event from two to three weeks, a change that left players bewildered. Amidst these technical woes and what some see as aggressive monetization tactics, the Chinese player base of Infinity Nikki took to the social platform RedNote to voice their discontent, sparking a widespread movement. Now, players worldwide are rallying to boycott the game on Steam, urging others to leave negative reviews and uninstall it across all platforms.

"Holding back your pulls for a couple of days can help show we want IN to remain fun and fair for all players," Reddit user kiaxxl emphasized in a call-to-action post. They pointed out that in gacha games, the success of new content is often gauged by early engagement, suggesting that withholding pulls could send a strong message to Infold about the community's expectations.

The backlash has had a tangible impact, with Infinity Nikki now holding a "Mixed" rating on Steam as players voice their concerns through negative reviews, cautioning potential new players to steer clear until their demands are met.

The growing boycott prompted Infold to release an apology letter across its official channels, acknowledging the technical issues and promising better communication about future changes. "Thank you again for your support," the message read. "We know we still have shortcomings, but it’s because of your companionship that Nikki can keep pushing the boundaries of imagination. Please give us another chance to let Nikki’s starlight continue shining for all of us, ensuring our sincerity never fades."

Apology Letter Regarding Version 1.5 Gaming Experience

Dear Stylists,
Hope this message finds you well.
First and foremost, we would like to extend our sincerest apologies. We are truly sorry that we were unable to provide you with a stable experience upon the release of the new… pic.twitter.com/YEjpGQpKho

Infold's apology included plans to revert Mira Crown to end on May 16 and start the next season on the same day, alongside compensation in the form of 10 Revelation Crystals, 10 Resonance Crystals, and 1200 Diamonds. While these steps are seen as progress, many in the community feel they fall short of the comprehensive changes they seek.

While some celebrate the quick response from Infold, others worry about the continued 11-piece requirement for new five-star outfits. Despite promises of improved communication, there are concerns that future outfits might still demand the same high number of pieces.

I wish you would finally change the drop rate.. it can't be that I need 200 pulls to get a 5-star and then you drop like 5 banners within weeks?! Make the rate lower or give us more diamonds to be able to get crystals.. this is not fun!

The Infinity Nikki community has begun to celebrate the impact of their activism, though the victory is not complete. Boycotters are urging the community to maintain pressure on Infold. "Think about it: CN players are pointing out that if we accept the 11-piece outfits and pity as it is, most new 5 stars will **be** 11 pieces," Reddit user EdensAsmr said. "Imagine if every new major update has two 11-piece 5-star banners? That means you have to save even more to be able to handle it, and 70-80 pulls per patch will **not** cut it."
