The PlayStation Portal has never seen an official discount, but savvy shoppers can still score a deal by opting for a used unit. Amazon Resale—formerly known as Amazon Warehouse—currently lists Used: Like New condition PS Portals in stock for just $148 shipped. Considering the original MSRP of $199, this represents a significant 26% saving. While the inclusion of a Sony warranty is uncertain, Amazon Resale items are backed by the same 30-day return policy as new purchases. Given the popularity of this product, we anticipate these units will sell out fast.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony’s dedicated handheld companion for the PS5 console. Designed like an extended DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen embedded between its dual analog sticks, it allows you to stream your PS5 games at up to 60fps. It replicates all the features of the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a full touchscreen interface replacing the standard touchpad. With the PlayStation Portal, you can take your gaming beyond the living room—as long as you have a strong and stable internet connection. Please note: This is not a standalone device; a PS5 console is required for initial functionality, though recent updates now allow cloud streaming via PlayStation Now.
Thanks to recent enhancements, PlayStation Portal users no longer need a PS5 to access compatible titles. By connecting directly to Sony’s cloud servers through PlayStation Now, the Portal becomes a powerful streaming device offering access to over 120 games such as *Ghost of Tsushima*, *Resident Evil 3 Remake*, *The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered*, and *Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales*. A subscription to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus is required, which costs $18 per month—significantly more affordable than buying a PS5 and individual games separately.
While alternative methods like the PS Remote Play app on mobile devices or other handhelds exist, the PlayStation Portal offers a superior experience. It provides native integration with PS5 controls, eliminating the setup complexity and feature limitations that come with third-party solutions.
PlayStation Portal Review Summary
“The PlayStation Portal is one of the most unexpectedly impressive gadgets I’ve tested. Despite my initial skepticism, I found myself genuinely enjoying the experience. It delivers a far better gameplay feel than using a phone with a clip-on controller, and performs much better than expected. The freedom to play PS5 games anywhere in the house—even when the TV is in use—is fantastic. That said, two key limitations hold it back from being truly perfect: the lack of support for WiFi networks requiring browser-based login and missing Bluetooth audio functionality. Even with those drawbacks, it remains the best way to remotely play PS5 games, especially for households where TV time is competitive.”
