PlayStation Unveils Smash-Inspired Title

A PlayStation studio, recently formed from former Bungie employees, is developing a MOBA titled "Gummy Bears." Initially conceived at Bungie, this project, reportedly in development since at least 2020, has undergone a significant shift.
This unique MOBA deviates from traditional health bar systems, instead employing a percentage-based damage mechanic reminiscent of Super Smash Bros. High damage percentages result in characters being knocked off the map, mirroring the Smash Bros. gameplay.
The game is designed with a younger audience in mind, a departure from Bungie's previous titles. It will feature three character classes (Attack, Defense, and Support) and multiple game modes, all wrapped in a "cozy, vibrant, and lo-fi" aesthetic.
The transition to a new PlayStation studio followed Bungie's 2023 layoffs and subsequent staff integration into Sony Interactive Entertainment. While the release date remains uncertain, "Gummy Bears" is expected to be years from launch. The new studio, comprised of approximately 40 employees, is believed to be located in Los Angeles.
