Every Pokémon Game on the Nintendo Switch in 2025
Pokémon, a global media powerhouse and Nintendo mainstay since the Game Boy era, boasts hundreds of captivating creatures—collectible in-game and as trading cards—with each generation unveiling a fresh wave of discoveries. Every Nintendo console has seen its share of Pokémon titles, and the Nintendo Switch is no exception.
With Nintendo's official Switch 2 announcement confirming backward compatibility, you can confidently purchase any existing Switch Pokémon game, knowing it will be playable on the new console. Below, we've compiled every Pokémon game released on the Nintendo Switch, along with information on upcoming Switch 2 releases.
How Many Pokémon Games Are on Nintendo Switch?
A total of 12 Pokémon games have graced the Nintendo Switch. This includes mainline entries from generations 8 and 9, plus numerous spin-offs. For this list, we've counted dual-version mainline games as single releases and excluded titles available via Nintendo Switch Online (see that list below).
Note: 2024 marked a break in new Pokémon game releases—over a year since the last release, and two years since the last mainline title. The Pokémon Company instead launched Pokémon TCG Pocket, a free card app that's become incredibly popular. While not on Switch, it's a worthwhile addition for Pokémon fans.
Which Pokémon Game Should You Play in 2024?
For a Switch Pokémon game in 2024, I recommend Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While it deviates from classic Pokémon gameplay, it offers a refreshing experience. Legends: Arceus introduces action-RPG elements, open exploration, greater encounter control, and polished handheld gameplay.

All Pokémon Games on Nintendo Switch (Release Order)

Pokémon Quest transforms Pokémon into adorable cube creatures. This free-to-play game features simple yet fun combat, sending Pokémon on expeditions and equipping them with various abilities.

Remakes of the beloved Pokémon Yellow (1998), these titles marked the mainline series' home console debut. Set in Kanto, they feature all 151 original Pokémon with various forms from previous installments. Their accessibility makes them ideal for both newcomers and veterans.

Often praised as one of the best Switch Pokémon games, this title takes place in the ancient Hisui region. It emphasizes exploration, allowing free roaming to capture Pokémon and explore diverse environments.

The latest mainline entries, launching Generation 9. They feature an open world allowing free exploration, and the "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" DLC is now complete.
