Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. Let's delve into the reasons behind this decision and what the future might hold.
Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Scene (Yet)
No Immediate Competitive Plans

In a recent interview with VGC (February 25, 2025), Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the roster. He playfully referenced Pokémon Sleep—the subject of a previous April Fool's joke—before reiterating that there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket’s inclusion at this time.
Early Stages and Balancing Concerns

While no official reasons have been given, fan speculation points to the game's relative youth (only four months old with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balance issues. Although the app includes competitive features, players have voiced concerns about balancing. Pokémon TCG Pocket is a simplified version of the original card game, designed for accessibility, not initially for a competitive focus.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.
