After a nearly decade-long absence, Professor Layton returns. LEVEL-5, the game's developer, revealed at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024 that Nintendo played a key role in bringing the series back.

During a TGS 2024 discussion with Yuji Horii (Dragon Quest creator), LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino explained that while Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy felt like a satisfying conclusion, Nintendo ("Company ‘N’") encouraged a return to the steampunk world.

Hino stated (via AUTOMATON) that the series had concluded, but significant industry figures, particularly from "Company ‘N’," strongly advocated for a new game.

Nintendo's involvement is unsurprising, considering their close relationship with the franchise. The Professor Layton series flourished on the Nintendo DS and 3DS, with Nintendo publishing many titles and recognizing the series as a DS highlight.

Hino emphasized that this encouragement prompted the decision to create a new game, aiming to deliver the same high quality on the latest consoles.

The game maintains the series' signature challenging puzzles, this time enhanced by QuizKnock, renowned puzzle creators. This collaboration is highly anticipated by fans, especially following the mixed reception of Layton's Mystery Journey, which featured Layton's daughter.
