PS5 Disc Drive Back in Stock (But Maybe Not for Long)

The PlayStation 5 disc drive is currently available at select US retailers, including PlayStation Direct and Amazon. However, given past trends, this limited stock is unlikely to last.

The shortage stems from the release of the PS5 Pro, which doesn't offer a disc drive option. This forces users seeking the best PS5 experience and physical media compatibility to purchase the disc drive separately. This demand, coupled with the initial release of the disc-less PS5 Digital Edition in 2020, has created persistent supply issues.

While some retailers have restocked, including Amazon US and PlayStation Direct (at the MSRP of $79.99), availability remains limited. PlayStation Direct, for example, restricts purchases to one per customer to deter scalpers. A third-party seller on Walmart is also offering the drive, but at a significantly inflated price ($122) and with extremely limited stock. Other major retailers like Walmart, GameStop, and Best Buy remain out of stock.
