The $700 PS5 Pro's debut has prompted analysts to forecast sales comparable to the PS4 Pro, despite the significant price increase. Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls noted the substantial price difference (40-50%) between the PS5 and PS5 Pro, contrasting it with the smaller gap between the PS4 and PS4 Pro at launch.

Ampere Analysis projects approximately 1.3 million PS5 Pro units sold during the November 2024 launch window – around 400,000 fewer than the PS4 Pro's initial sales in 2016. Harding-Rolls highlighted the price disparity, suggesting it might dampen demand, but also acknowledging that price is less of a concern for dedicated PlayStation fans. The PS4 Pro ultimately achieved sales of approximately 14.5 million units, representing about 12% of total PS4 sales, with an estimated 13 million unit sell-through within five years. Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PS5, confirmed that the PS5 Pro will enhance PSVR2 gaming through performance improvements.
