"PS5 Home Screen Ads Were a 'Tech Error'"

Sony has addressed the widespread dissatisfaction among PlayStation 5 users following a recent update that cluttered the console's home screen with ads and promotional content.
Sony Resolves Unintended Error with PS5 Ads
Sony took to Twitter (X) to announce that they have fixed a technical glitch related to the Official News feature on PS5 consoles. "A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved," Sony stated on social media. "There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5."
The issue arose after Sony rolled out an update that filled the PS5 home screen with ads, promotional art, and outdated news, much to the chagrin of its user base. The update, which was gradually implemented over recent weeks and finalized with the latest patch, led to significant portions of the home screen being dominated by promotional article headlines.
PlayStation Fans Express Frustration Over Update
Following the update, PS5 users voiced their frustrations online. The home screen now features art and news related to the game a user is currently focused on. Despite Sony's efforts to address the complaints, many users remain unhappy with the changes. One user shared on social media, "I checked my other games and they had it as well, and most of the background images have changed to these low-quality thumbnails from the news, covering up the unique art that made each game feel like it had its own 'theme.' This is a terrible decision, and I hope it gets changed or we get an option to opt out quickly. At least with the explore tab, I could ignore it and not have it affect every game I 'own.'" Another user expressed, "It's strange that people are defending this. Who wants to spend $500 to be bombarded with ads they didn't ask for?"
