Razer Gaming Laptop Pulled Due to Trump's PC Hardware Tariffs
The import tariffs imposed by U.S. President Trump are once again causing ripples in the gaming industry, this time targeting Razer's highly anticipated Blade 16 gaming laptop. Tariffs, essentially taxes levied on imported goods, often find their way into the pockets of consumers rather than being absorbed by companies along the supply chain. Unfortunately for gamers, this means price hikes are almost inevitable, particularly affecting technology and gaming products.
In a surprising move, some products are being temporarily withdrawn from the market. According to reports by The Verge, the Blade 16, which had been available for purchase in the U.S. as late as April 1, has now vanished from the website. European gamers, on the other hand, can still place orders for the new gaming laptop—if it’s in stock—but U.S. shoppers are left with nothing more than a "Notify Me" button and no pricing details. Clicking the Buy Now button leads to a 404 error page.
Razer isn't alone in pausing sales due to market uncertainty. Companies like Micron, a major memory manufacturer, have expressed concerns over additional costs caused by tariffs on Chinese and Taiwanese goods, which are crucial to PC production. Similarly, PC manufacturer Framework has temporarily halted some U.S. sales altogether.
This disruption extends beyond Razer. Last week, the pre-order announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2, initially scheduled for April 9, was abruptly removed from U.S. listings following Trump's tariff enforcement. The ripple effect soon crossed borders, with Nintendo Canada confirming delays in pre-orders as well.
Industry insiders and analysts fear that Nintendo may hike the price of the Switch 2 and its accompanying games even higher, especially given the backlash over pricing since the console's unveiling. For more insights, stay tuned to announcements from the recent Nintendo Direct event.
