Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind Apex Legends, has canceled an unannounced incubation project, resulting in layoffs. Insider Gaming first reported the news, citing a since-deleted LinkedIn post from a former production coordinator.

IGN independently confirmed the cancellation. The project, understood to be a multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS), stemmed from a team previously working on a canceled Star Wars FPS project at Respawn. While the exact number of layoffs remains unconfirmed, sources describe it as a "small" number. At least one individual connected to the project has clarified their departure was voluntary.

This cancellation follows a pattern of project cancellations, layoffs, and restructuring within Electronic Arts (EA) that began in 2023. This includes 50 job cuts at BioWare, an unspecified number at Codemasters, and the significant 670-person layoff a year ago that also saw the closure of multiple projects, including the aforementioned Star Wars FPS and approximately two dozen job losses at Respawn. Further restructuring at BioWare has involved internal developer reassignments and additional, undisclosed layoffs.
