Romancing SaGa Re:universe Global Server Closure Announced
The global version of Romancing SaGa Re:universe will officially cease operations on December 2nd, 2024. While this may come as a surprise to some, the Japanese version will continue running.
Two Months Remaining
With the shutdown date approaching, in-app purchases of jewels and Google Play Points exchanges have already been discontinued following the September 29th, 2024 maintenance. Players have approximately two months left to enjoy the game.
A Mixed Legacy
Launched globally in June 2020, Romancing SaGa Re:universe, despite its impressive visuals, soundtrack, and generous gacha system, received a mixed reception. Unlike its successful Japanese counterpart, the global version lacked significant content updates, notably the Solistia expansion and 6-star unit upgrades, contributing to player dissatisfaction. This content disparity, present for nearly a year, ultimately impacted the game's global player base.
Square Enix's Recent Shutdowns
This closure follows several other game shutdowns by Square Enix in 2024, including Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius and two Dragon Quest mobile titles.
