Semine or Hashek: Best Outcome in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's Necessary Evil Quest

In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with one of the game's most challenging moral dilemmas. You'll need to decide whether to side with Semine or Hashek during this quest. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate this decision.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough
After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you can start "Necessary Evil". In this quest, von Bergow assigns Hans and Henry the task of gathering information from Nebakov Fortress and interrogating a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome is crucial, as it will influence whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough assumes you choose to focus on Semine, where the toughest decisions await.
Prisoner Interrogation Answers
During the prisoner interrogation, you'll need to pass several Speech checks. You can either use threats backed by sufficient Speech or resort to torture to extract information. Here are the Speech check requirements:
- “We’ll put in a good word for you.” (20 Impression)
- “Istvan and I are old acquaintances.” (20 Impression)
- “Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you.” (17 Intimidation)
Post-interrogation, you'll uncover the bandit leader’s identity and Semine’s involvement. When reporting to von Bergow, you can either reveal Young Semine's collusion with the bandits, prompting an attack on the town, or claim no local assistance to the bandits, leading to an attack on Nebakov.
Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?
Choosing to attack Semine requires you to ride with the party, leading to further difficult decisions with Hashek. Opting for Nebakov means von Bergow will handle the bandits there, concluding the quest immediately.
While attacking Nebakov might seem the less bloody option, it's morally questionable to let Semine off the hook, given their role in the deaths of innocents. I personally chose to attack Semine, feeling it was the right course despite my familiarity with the town from earlier in the game.
If you decide to attack Semine, ensure you ride with the party; otherwise, the town could be completely wiped out. Riding with them gives you a chance to intervene and save Semine.
Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?
Before the ride to Semine, you can speak with Hashek, who clearly seeks revenge and the most violent path possible. Upon arrival, you must decide whether to side with Semine or Hashek. Choose “Hashek is right” to align with Hashek or “Olda deserves a trial” to support Semine.
I recommend siding with Semine. Although Semine was wrong to aid the bandits, Hashek's approach would lead to unnecessary bloodshed. Playing Henry as a morally upright character, it made sense for him to oppose Hashek’s destructive intentions.
After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee, advancing the quest to your next objective of reporting to von Bergow.
Choosing Hashek means the entire town will be killed. You can also find Olda in the tower and decide his fate—either sparing him or handing him over to Hashek.
Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?
In the quest's final stage, Henry and Hans report back to von Bergow. You can choose to remain silent, allowing Hans to handle the diplomacy, or speak up and detail the events at Semine.
I suggest staying silent and letting Hans speak. His diplomatic skills will keep both of you in von Bergow's favor, leading him to plan his next move against Nebakov.
That covers all you need to know about the choice between Semine and Hashek in the "Necessary Evil" quest in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*. For more tips and insights on the game, including romance options and where to find Goatskin, visit The Escapist.
