Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast and a teaser trailer, prompting even Movie Sonic to offer design advice. In a humorous TikTok video, the official Sonic Movie account shared a side-by-side comparison of Sonic's original, poorly-received design and his later, much-improved redesign, offering it as a lesson for Shrek's new look.

IGN's exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie in 2018 generated mixed reactions, with fans focusing on Sonic's teeth, physique, eyes, and fingers. Following the criticism, director Jeff Fowler redesigned the character, resulting in a more favorably received version.

While the response to Shrek's new look isn't as intensely negative as Sonic's initial design, Sonic's playful TikTok post amused fans. Comments included, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," and "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.

Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5's development was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, in 2023, along with plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving Minions 3 to its previous slot.
