How to Obtain Solanium in No Man's Sky

In the expansive universe of No Man's Sky, certain resources are exclusive to planets with specific climates. One such resource is Solanium, which you'll need to consider when planning your base location. Here's everything you need to know about obtaining Solanium, whether through gathering, farming, or crafting.
How to Find Solanium in No Man's Sky
Solanium is akin to Frost Crystal but is found on hot and scorched planets. To locate these planets, use your starship's scanner from space to identify the planet's type and available resources. Look for descriptions indicating a hot and dry climate, such as Arid Planet, Incandescent Planet, Boiling Planet, or Scorched Planet. The scanner will also indicate if Solanium is available.
Once you land, equip your Analysis Visor to locate Solar Vine plants, which resemble tall rocks with glowing vines. These plants tend to cluster together, making them easier to harvest. You'll need the Haz-Mat Gauntlet to gather them. While on the planet, consider extracting Phosphorus if available, as it's useful for crafting additional Solanium when you're away from hot planets.
How to Farm Solanium in No Man's Sky
Farming Solar Vines becomes possible after progressing in the Farmer's Agricultural Research mission. You can set up a Hydroponic Tray or Bio-Dome at your base and plant Solar Vines using 50 Solanium and 50 Phosphorus. If your base is on a hot planet, you can plant directly into the ground.
The growth cycle for Solar Vines takes about 16 real-life hours, so plan to return the next day to harvest your crop.
How to Craft Solanium in No Man's Sky
Crafting Solanium in the Refiner involves recipes that typically require Phosphorus, which you can gather from hot planets or purchase from traders and Galactic Trade Terminals. Here are the crafting recipes for Solanium:
- Solanium + Phosphorus (to make more Solanium)
- Phosphorus + Oxygen
- Phosphorus + Sulphurine
- Di-hydrogen + Sulphurine
Note that all these recipes, including those requiring Sulphurine, necessitate a visit to a hot planet. To maintain a steady supply of Sulphurine, gather ample Phosphorus and establish a farm at your base.
