Sonic Teams Up with Magic: The Gathering

Magic: The Gathering's Secret Lair series continues its streak of exciting crossovers, with SpongeBob and Deadpool making way for Sonic the Hedgehog next month. This collaboration brings three unique Secret Lair drops – we're exclusively revealing the artifact-focused Turbo Gear collection first.
Magic: The Gathering – Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear

Unlike the expansive Final Fantasy crossover that included draftable sets and Commander decks, this Sonic collaboration follows Magic's signature Secret Lair approach. Three limited-edition drops will feature specially designed cards available directly from Wizards of the Coast, rather than through randomized booster packs.
The Turbo Gear collection transforms six existing Magic cards with fresh Sonic-inspired artwork and names, plus one bonus token card. Commander staples like Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves receive thematic makeovers – naturally, Sonic's iconic footwear gets its moment in the spotlight. The legendary Weatherlight vehicle appears here as Tornado, Sonic's signature biplane, which can now serve as your Commander thanks to recent rules updates.
Wizards of the Coast designed this drop to synergize with another in the series featuring Sonic's core characters. While we can't reveal those yet, Turbo Gear's store description hints at exciting combinations – imagine equipping Knuckles's Gloves (a reimagined Reaver Cleaver) to Knuckles himself. This mirrors previous crossover strategies like the Tomb Raider set, where reprinted cards complemented new Legendary creatures to help players start building Commander decks.
The Turbo Gear Secret Lair and its companion drops launch July 14 at 9am PT through the official Secret Lair store. Non-foil versions will cost $29.99, with foil editions priced at $39.99. These limited-quantity releases typically sell out quickly, so speed will be essential – just like Sonic himself!
