The previous generation, the Sony XM4, was already exceptional, but the XM5 introduces key enhancements in noise cancellation and comfort. It features a second processor and double the microphone count, dedicated to filtering out ambient noise. The earcups have been redesigned to fit more snugly on the ear, creating a better seal and thus improving passive noise isolation. The noise-canceling performance is notably superior to the XM4 and virtually any other noise-canceling headset within its price range.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 also boasts a sleeker redesign with an updated headband adjustment style.
