Squad Busters 2.0 Hits Android Just Before First Anniversary!
Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the rollout of its monumental Update 2.0, set to launch on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to reach the level of popularity that Supercell had hoped for. With this significant update, the developers are aiming to turn the tide and revitalize the game's appeal.
This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two
Squad Busters 2.0 is essentially a reboot, redefining the game's core mechanics from the ground up. The update introduces a new battle system where players select a Hero to lead their squad. These Heroes, inspired by existing characters, are pivotal to the gameplay; if your Hero falls, it's game over. This shift adds a layer of strategy and urgency to each match.
Combat dynamics have also been revamped. Players no longer need to halt their movement to engage in battle; attacks are now seamlessly integrated with movement, resulting in more dynamic, fast-paced, and intense matches. Additionally, the victory conditions have evolved. Instead of eliminating every opponent on the board, players now focus on taking down the enemy Hero, which some fans liken to a more complex version of Brawl Stars.
Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features
The update also involves cutting several existing modes such as Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder. Alongside these, certain skins and progression systems will be phased out. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items to ease the transition.

The urgency behind these changes stems from Squad Busters' underwhelming performance compared to Supercell's other hits like Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars. With the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is pulling out all the stops to reignite player interest. The update coincides with the launch of daily piñata events, offering players a chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis, among other rewards.
