Zynga, the publisher behind Star Wars Hunters, has announced the game's complete shutdown just nine months post-launch, with plans for a Steam PC version now canceled.

Developed by NaturalMotion, this free-to-play team-based arena battler debuted on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android in June 2024. IGN's Star Wars: Hunters review scored it 7/10, stating: "Star Wars: Hunters offers casual PvP excitement akin to a Death Star celebration – impressive briefly, but not somewhere you'll linger indefinitely."

The review proved prophetic as Zynga confirmed that "after thorough evaluation," the final content update will release April 15 across all platforms, with gameplay continuing until October 1, 2025.

"We recognize this news is disappointing and assure players this wasn't an easy decision," Zynga stated. "Your enthusiasm for the game and community has been invaluable. We'll provide transparency throughout this transition period."

Here's the timeline: On March 25, Season 5 extends for three weeks with returning events and shop bundles. The Ranked Season also extends, giving players additional time to achieve Kyber 1 rank.

April 15 brings the final free content update alongside disabled in-game purchases. Support Hunter Tuya joins the roster immediately available to all players at no cost, accompanied by additional content. Zynga will maintain a final Ranked Mode leaderboard with rotating battlefields and modes.

On October 1, online servers permanently shut down, making Star Wars: Hunters completely unplayable thereafter.

The shutdown announcement makes no mention of the PC version, which was slated for Steam Early Access this year. Its Steam page now displays a "no longer available" notice.

Take-Two subsidiary Zynga, famous for mobile hits like FarmVille and Words with Friends, ventured into console gaming with Star Wars: Hunters. The game also marked Zynga's planned PC debut.

"Star Wars: Hunters' mobile and Switch success motivated our PC expansion," remarked Yaron Leyvan, Zynga's EVP of Games, last November. "This community-requested milestone excited us to welcome more players to Vespaara while establishing our PC presence."

Several other Star Wars games remain in development, including Respawn Entertainment's third Jedi installment and Bit Reactor's turn-based tactics title set for reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
