Star Wars: Hunters Shuts Down Before First Anniversary
Star Wars: Hunters, despite not completing a full year since its launch, has announced its impending shutdown. Interestingly, the game will still get to celebrate its one-year anniversary before the curtains close. This raises the question: Is celebrating a dying game's anniversary worthwhile?
When Is the Star Wars: Hunters Shutdown?
The servers for Star Wars: Hunters are set to shut down on October 1st, 2025, marking the end of the game's journey after just nine months. Players have until April 15th to wrap up Season 5, which concludes on the same day.Zynga, both the developer and publisher, is planning one last hurrah with a final content update on April 15th. This update will introduce a new Support Hunter, Tuya, available for free. Additionally, in-game purchases will be disabled starting on April 15th.
Ranked Mode will remain active until the servers go offline, and events from the season will be rerun to give players one last chance to enjoy the game. If you have unspent Crystals, it's advisable to use them before the shutdown as no refunds will be issued.
It Isn’t Shocking
The shutdown of Star Wars: Hunters may come as no surprise to many. The game faced numerous challenges right from the start. Announced back in 2020, it experienced multiple delays and only conducted beta tests in the SEA and ANZAC regions.Several factors contributed to its downfall, including a delayed launch, lack of major console support, and a lukewarm reception from the gaming community. From a design perspective, the decision to use generic original characters instead of leveraging the iconic Star Wars legends was a missed opportunity.
If you've uninstalled the game but wish to experience it one last time, it remains available for download on the Google Play Store until the shutdown date.
