"New StarCraft Game Pitches from Korean Developers to Blizzard"
Blizzard is reportedly exploring new avenues for the beloved StarCraft franchise, with several Korean studios vying to develop fresh games based on the IP. According to Asia Today, four prominent Korean companies—NCSoft, Nexon, Netmarble, and Krafton—are competing to secure publishing rights and develop new StarCraft titles. Representatives from these companies have reportedly visited Blizzard's headquarters in Irvine, California, to pitch their ideas.
NCSoft, known for the Lineage and Guild Wars MMOs, is said to be developing a StarCraft RPG, potentially an MMORPG. Nexon, behind The First Descendant, is proposing a "unique" take on the StarCraft universe. Netmarble, creators of Solo Leveling: Arise and Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, is interested in crafting a StarCraft mobile game. Meanwhile, Krafton, the force behind PUBG and inZOI, aims to leverage its development capabilities to create a new StarCraft experience.
While pitches and development contracts are common in the gaming industry, and not all proposals may come to fruition, StarCraft fans are eagerly watching Blizzard's moves to expand the sci-fi universe. Activision Blizzard has declined to comment on these reports.
In related news, Blizzard is reportedly working on a third StarCraft shooter, led by former Far Cry executive producer Dan Hay, who joined Blizzard in 2022. This project marks Blizzard's latest attempt to venture beyond the franchise's real-time strategy roots into the shooter genre. Previous attempts, including StarCraft Ghost and the codenamed Ares project, were canceled, but Blizzard's persistence suggests a strong commitment to the StarCraft universe.
Recent developments also include Blizzard hiring for an "upcoming open-world shooter game," hinting at another StarCraft FPS. Additionally, Blizzard has released StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection on Game Pass and announced a StarCraft crossover with the Warcraft card game Hearthstone, indicating a renewed focus on the franchise.
