Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to it. However, it's particularly vulnerable to water and ice. Targeting its head, which has a 4-star weakness, is the most effective strategy. Its wings also present a viable target with a 3-star weakness.

Avoid striking its torso as it's quite resilient. If hitting the head is challenging, focus on its tail instead. The legs are less ideal due to their strong protection. For status ailments, nearly all are effective except for Stun and Paralysis, which are futile against a lightning-element dragon.

Use a Flash Pod

A key tactic to swiftly defeat Rey Dau is employing a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, allowing you to land precise hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its glowing red horns to maximize damage. Remember to activate Focus Mode to easily spot these vulnerable areas.

Wear Element-Resistant Gear

Surviving this battle might require equipping gear that enhances your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces incoming damage and offers resistance to Lightning and Fire. Consider also consuming a meal that boosts your elemental resistance.

If dodging proves difficult, position yourself near Rey Dau's legs. The monster primarily attacks the areas in front and behind, so staying close to its legs minimizes your risk of getting hit.

Pay Attention to the Environment

Rey Dau's mobility during the fight means you'll need to adapt to its changing positions. In the open plains, use Vine Traps found on lone trees to temporarily stun the dragon. However, exercise caution when it returns to its nest, as it may follow up with a lightning attack that can easily stun you. Patience and strategic positioning are key to avoiding fatal shocks.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds

Instead of slaying Rey Dau, you can capture it for additional rewards. Reduce its health until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. At this point, deploy a trap to catch the monster.

Given Rey Dau's immunity to lightning, avoid using Shock Traps. Instead, opt for a Pitfall Trap for a successful capture. Follow up swiftly with a Tranquilizer to prevent escape, as you only have a brief window to act.
