According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sakurai will helm the new film adaptation for Legendary Entertainment, promising a fresh take on the iconic fighting game franchise. Capcom, the game's developer, is deeply involved in the project, and fans can mark their calendars for the movie's release on March 20, 2026.

This adaptation follows in the footsteps of the memorable 1994 film, which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, and the late Raul Julia as M. Bison. Although critics may not have praised it at the time, it's fondly remembered by fans as a cult classic. While casting details for the new film remain under wraps, enthusiasts can look forward to seeing their favorite Street Fighter characters brought to life once again.

Initially, the project was set to be directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, known for their work on Talk to Me, but they left the project last summer.
