The long-awaited return of Suikoden! After over a decade of absence, the upcoming HD remaster of the first two games aims to reignite the series' popularity and pave the way for future installments.

A New Generation of Fans?

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster seeks to introduce the classic JRPG series to a new generation of gamers while rekindling the passion of longtime fans. Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama expressed their hopes for the remaster to act as a springboard for future Suikoden titles in an interview with Famitsu. Ogushi, deeply connected to the series, paid tribute to the late Yoshitaka Murayama, the series creator. Sakiyama, who directed Suikoden V, expressed his desire to bring Suikoden back into the spotlight.

An Enhanced Experience

Based on the 2006 Japan-exclusive PlayStation Portable collection, the HD remaster boasts enhanced visuals with high-definition textures, creating more immersive environments. While the original pixel art style is preserved, expect beautifully detailed locations and polished sprites. A new Gallery feature offers access to music, cutscenes, and an event viewer, all accessible from the main menu.

Addressing Past Issues

The remaster corrects issues from the PSP release. The infamous shortened Luca Blight cutscene in Suikoden 2 is restored, and dialogue has been updated to reflect modern sensibilities. For instance, Richmond's smoking habit has been removed to align with Japanese smoking regulations.

Launch and Availability

Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is scheduled for release on March 6, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
