Nintendo Switch 2: Unveiled!
Nintendo Switch 2 Direct: April 2nd, 2025
Following months of speculation, Nintendo has confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2. A brief teaser showcased a refined design retaining the hybrid functionality of its predecessor, but with significant enhancements.
The teaser highlighted a larger display, a more robust kickstand, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons – a notable change from the original's rails. A supplementary USB-C port was also confirmed.
Backward compatibility is a key feature. Nintendo stated that both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games will be playable, though some titles may have limited support or compatibility. Specific details will be released later on the Nintendo website. Existing Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will carry over.
While no exclusive titles have been officially announced, the teaser hinted at a potential new Mario Kart installment, and reports suggest Gotham Knights may be a possibility. A dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025 will provide further details.
Hands-on Experience: Starting April 2025
Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events will allow fans to try the console before launch. Registration opens January 17th, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. PT / 2:00 P.M. CT / 3:00 P.M. ET and closes January 26th, 2025, at 11:59 P.M. local time for each location. A Nintendo Account is required.
