Warner Bros. Shuts Down Mortal Kombat: Onslaught After One Year
Warner Bros. Games has announced the discontinuation of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, marking the end of the game's journey almost exactly one year after its launch. As of July 22nd, 2024, the mobile title has been removed from both the Google Play Store and the App Store. Dive deeper to understand the details surrounding the Mortal Kombat: Onslaught shutdown.
Starting August 23rd, 2024, all in-game transactions will be halted. However, players can continue to engage in the game's brutal combat until October 21st, 2024. After this date, the servers will be shut down, and Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will cease to exist.
The reasons behind the termination of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught have not been officially disclosed. However, the recent closure of NetherRealm's mobile games division, which was also responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice, may suggest a broader strategic shift affecting other mobile titles from the same studio.
What About In-Game Purchases?
For those who have invested in in-game purchases, the fate of your spent currency and customization items remains uncertain. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have not yet provided details on refunds. They have promised more information soon, so keep an eye on their official X (Twitter) account for the latest updates on this matter.
Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, released in October 2023 to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary, introduced a unique twist to the Mortal Kombat universe. As the fourth game in the series to deviate from traditional fighting mechanics, it blends intense combat with a cinematic storyline. The game's narrative focuses on thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok's attempt to reclaim his power, with the assistance of Raiden and your squad of fighters.
