Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has launched with over 114,000 concurrent players on Steam, marking one of the most significant non-FromSoftware Soulslike releases to date.

The game currently ranks as the eighth most-played title on Steam by concurrent player count, having soared past the 100,000-player threshold to reach a 24-hour peak of 114,132 users. For context, according to SteamDB data, Lies of P achieved a concurrent player peak just over 30,000, Lords of the Fallen reached 43,075, and The First Berserker: Khazan topped out at nearly 33,000.

While concurrent players represent just one metric for gauging a game's success—and don't account for other platforms—it provides a useful initial benchmark.

Despite its strong launch numbers, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers initially received 'Overwhelmingly Negative' user reviews on Steam, later improving slightly to 'Mostly Negative.' Players have reported "extremely awful performance," a "completely lifeless" protagonist, and "clunky" combat and gameplay. At the time of writing, only 21% of the more than 6,500 Steam reviews are positive.

"I wanted to give this game a fair chance. I was excited for it. I saw the mostly negative rating and checked the concerns, which I can now confirm are accurate," wrote one reviewer. "The game suffers from major performance issues. I tried to push through, hoping the gameplay might compensate, but I couldn't fully experience the combat. I fought the tutorial boss and a few enemy camps, and there were moments of fun during the boss fight. Unfortunately, the severe performance problems overshadowed everything."

"UE5 games can be hit or miss with performance, and unfortunately, this one is a miss on my system," added another. "This is exactly why the game needs a free demo."

However, not all impressions are negative. "I seem to be one of the lucky ones—the game runs smoothly on my PC with no crashes, stutters, or slideshow combat," said a more satisfied reviewer. "This makes one thing clear: Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is being unfairly criticized by players with underpowered PCs and no optimization knowledge."

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action RPG set in the land of Shu during the dark and chaotic late Ming Dynasty. Players assume the role of a mysterious warrior afflicted by a terrifying feather disease, uncovering hidden secrets and confronting supernatural foes in an ancient empire on the brink of collapse.

In its Wuchang: Fallen Feathers review, IGN awarded the game an 8/10, stating: "Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is another excellent addition to the growing Soulslike genre, featuring superb combat, brilliant level design, an impressive skill tree, and formidable bosses. Just be prepared for some uneven difficulty spikes and a reliance on occasionally frustrating ambushes."

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers launched earlier today, July 24, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Microsoft has also added it to Game Pass on day one for subscribers of the Ultimate tier.
