Official Release Coming This Year

Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase 2025 revealed two revolutionary Xbox-branded handhelds developed with Asus. The Xbox Ally and Ally X merge Xbox's gaming ecosystem with Windows' flexibility, delivering a console-quality portable experience. Midway through the presentation, attendees witnessed Hollow Knight: Silksong running smoothly on one unit - confirming rumors about the long-awaited title.

Codenamed Project Kennan, this Microsoft-Asus collaboration focuses on creating a unified handheld gaming platform. Both devices boot directly into an immersive Xbox interface showcasing your entire game collection - spanning Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net and other major platforms.

The entry-level white Xbox Ally targets 720p gaming performance, featuring AMD's Ryzen Z2 A processor, 16GB LPDDR5X memory, and a 512GB SSD.

Its premium counterpart, the black Xbox Ally X, pushes boundaries with 900p-1080p capabilities. It boasts AMD's Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip (including a powerful 50 TOPs NPU), 24GB high-speed RAM, and 1TB SSD - all displayed on a stunning 7-inch 1080p 120Hz screen.

Microsoft's Shawn Yen highlighted "efficiency is our superpower" as the project's guiding principle. The Ally X incorporates an industry-leading 80Wh battery, while the standard model features a substantial 60Wh capacity - a 50% improvement over the original ROG Ally. Paired with a streamlined Windows 11 variant that reduces system overhead, these innovations promise extended play sessions and optimized performance.

The crowning moment arrived when Silksong appeared during the demo, electrifying viewers worldwide. With superior hardware, console-quality UI, and surprises like Silksong, Microsoft is reshaping handheld PC gaming. The ball's now in Steam Deck's court.
