The recent PlayStation State of Play broadcast gave us our first real glimpse of 007 First Light, the next James Bond title from Hitman developer IO Interactive, set for release in 2026.

A cinematic trailer introduced a younger, fresh-faced James Bond at the dawn of his career as a secret agent.

The trailer also confirmed the participation of Lennie James from The Walking Dead, who will play another role in the game.

007 First Light's trailer reveals that this version of James Bond witnessed his parents' death when he was only 11 years old, in a mountain accident where they cut their own ropes to save him. Bond then managed to descend the mountain alone.

IO Interactive's James Bond project was first revealed in 2020 under the name Project 007, and since then, information has been sparse. However, from the beginning, IO stated it was crafting an original Bond origin story, independent of any existing film narrative.

More recently, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak expressed hopes that 007 First Light would kick off a new game trilogy. Unfortunately, the studio's popular Hitman series is on hold while development focuses on this title. We also learned in April that aside from PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
