First unveiled at the recently concluded PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has sparked even more interest with its newly released extended gameplay trailer.

The trailer features early development gameplay, showcasing protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, as they navigate the ruins of a desolate, otherworldly London devastated by an Outworld invasion. As they trek through the crumbling streets, they encounter enemies that impede their progress. It's then revealed that Gwendolyn has the unique ability to summon a band of over ten legendary knights inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

After clearing the path of enemies and further exploration through a magical portal, the duo engages in a boss fight with a character named Mordred, whose goals starkly conflict with Gwendolyn's. The intense battle showcases the game's action-packed combat, enhanced by a haunting choir singing in the background, culminating in a thrilling conclusion.

According to the game's producer, Kun Fu, featured on the PlayStation.Blog, the battle system will offer "intuitive co-op combat in a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights with distinct combat roles at a time, requiring strategic decision-making based on the current situation. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience," Fu explains. "It's a system that our team, comprised of veterans from top game studios, fell in love with during internal playtests."

A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta

The trailer has garnered positive feedback in the comments section, with viewers praising the art direction, art style, and the fast-paced, fluid hack-and-slash combat. Many have drawn comparisons to classics like Devil May Cry (DMC) and Bayonetta, as well as modern hits such as Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. Enthusiasts have expressed their excitement and acknowledged the game's "immense potential," indicating they plan to purchase it upon release.

Tides of Annihilation marks the debut title from Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian legend with an alternate modern-day London setting.
