Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Cheerful Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

May 23,25(5 months ago)

Capcom has cleverly teased Resident Evil 9 in a recent celebratory video, released in honor of reaching 10 million players for Resident Evil 4. The short clip, shared on social media on April 25, features Ada Wong in a tense conversation with a notorious villain, followed by scenes of Leon surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats as they approach a church.

The video then transitions to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador amusingly playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, while Leon is shown energetically fist-pumping. A rustic "Thank you for playing" sign appears in the background, which, when turned sideways, reveals the Roman numeral "IX," hinting at the number 9.

While it might seem like a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank on the sign, crucial to forming the "IX," was not present in earlier parts of the video, indicating it was deliberately added. This has led to speculation about its significance.

"I know what you did here," said one surprised viewer, adding a wide-eyed emoji to their comment.

PlayCapcom has also confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, likely Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7.

"It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi said at the time. "But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
