How Long Is Monster Hunter Wilds?
Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in Capcom's iconic action series, has finally arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Building on the legacy of Monster Hunter World and its Iceborne expansion, Wilds promises an expansive world filled with thrilling beast battles. But just how long will it take to experience everything this game has to offer? Here, we dive into the time it took different members of the IGN team to complete the main story, their focus during play, and their engagement with the post-game content.
Tom Marks - Executive Reviews Editor, Games
Reaching the credits in Monster Hunter Wilds took me just under **15 hours**. This marks the conclusion of the main story, unlike Monster Hunter Rise, where the first credits appear well before the plot's midpoint. However, completing the campaign only signifies the end of the Low Rank. High Rank follows, presenting numerous side quests and tougher challenges, ensuring there's still plenty to do.
I spent an additional **15 hours** tackling most of these High Rank quests to reach what I consider the true endgame. This involved battling all available monsters, unlocking all systems and crafting options, and exploring the new custom Artian weapon system, designed to keep players engaged. Thanks to Wilds' streamlined progression, I needed just another **5 hours** to max out the weapons and armor set of my choice, though there's always more to achieve with other weapon types.
**Casey DeFreitas - Deputy Editor, Guides** --------------------------------------------------I completed the final "story" mission in High Rank after around **40 hours**, which was about **22 hours after the credits rolled for the Low Rank**. My time might not be exact due to idle time spent in menus for guide creation. During the Low Rank, I didn't delve deeply into the game's intricate systems, focusing instead on crafting with available resources and progressing through the story without repeating hunts. In High Rank, I ventured into optional monster hunts and played more with friends, which is necessary to unlock further Story Missions.
I only upgraded my weapon once by hunting an extra Ajarakan, otherwise, I made do with what I had and rushed to the end. Ideally, I would have spent closer to **60 hours** to craft a more efficient set of armor and weapons. Post-game, I still have endemic life to catch, fishing to do, and six monster-hunting Side Missions to complete. I'm also looking forward to farming specific monsters for Talisman upgrades, experimenting with different armor sets, and trying my luck with the Artian weapons. I plan to replay the story leisurely with friends while learning new weapons, and I'm excited about the upcoming event quests and title updates with new monsters.

Completing Monster Hunter Wilds' main story took me **just under 16 hours**, which was surprisingly quick compared to my 25-hour journey into Monster Hunter World without reaching the end. As a relative newcomer to the series, I found the battles quite manageable, though the apex predators did pose a challenge. The game's streamlined approach, with less emphasis on elemental strengths, crafting tailored loadouts, and extensive tracking, made it more accessible for players like me.
The consistent flow of story cutscenes and monster battles until the credits felt less like a traditional Monster Hunter experience and more influenced by Western cinematic storytelling. While this allowed for a swift conclusion to the initial story, it might leave some of the series' core elements to be explored in the post-game.

It took me about **20 hours** to reach the initial credits in Monster Hunter Wilds. Most of this time was spent on optional and side quests, with some time dedicated to exploring the game's world, hunting endemic life, customizing menus, and finding optimal camp locations.
Completing all High Rank missions and side quests took another **15 hours**, allowing me to encounter all the post-credits monsters. So far, I've spent nearly **70 hours** in the post-game, enjoying activities like hunting with friends, decoration farming, and pursuing monster crowns. I'm eagerly anticipating future title updates that will add more monsters to the roster.
**Ronny Barrier - Producer, Guides** -------------------------------------------I reached the first credits in Monster Hunter Wilds after about **20 hours**. My focus was primarily on the main story, though I did take some time to craft a few armor sets and experiment with different weapons, particularly the Switch Axe. Currently, I'm at **65 hours** and don't consider the credits the true end, as there's still much to explore and hunt. The story feels like an extended tutorial, which suits me fine as it leads to more monster encounters and crafting opportunities. Except for Congalala, which I'd rather not see again.
