Learning to read Spanish is a crucial skill that should be nurtured from preschool through the early years of elementary school. It forms the foundation of academic success and is vital for future endeavors in adult life. Given that children are naturally drawn to computers and tablets, we can leverage these tools to enhance or reinforce what they are learning in school.

Method

Our method to learn Spanish reading through phonics is tailored for children aged 3 to 6 or 7, as well as adults seeking to refine their pronunciation. The curriculum is structured into a section for tracing letters and 30 progressive lessons, beginning with vowels and then covering consonants and digraphs such as L, M, S, T, P, N, D, F, H, C, Q, CH, G, GUE, R, -rr-, B, V, J, GE, GUE, Y, Z, CE, LL, X, and K.

Each lesson is enriched with 11 engaging games, available at two difficulty levels. This setup is perfect for parents and teachers aiming to help kids practice and master their first syllables and words in Spanish. Encourage the child to listen and complete the exercises; full comprehension is not required at this stage.

Learning to read is a journey that may span over a year. We advocate for short, daily practice sessions and occasional revisits to previously learned material, adjusting the exercises to suit the child's pace and level. It's crucial that this learning experience feels like a game.

Levels

All games feature two adjustable difficulty levels. Children can progress at their own speed, with the flexibility to pause and resume later. Successful completion of games rewards children with fruits, adding a fun incentive.

The first level is designed for children as young as three, and sometimes even younger with parental or educator assistance. At this stage, games can be completed with guidance from the instructions. The second level is more challenging, but it's important to remember that learning should remain enjoyable. As parents or guardians, ensure the difficulty matches the child's capabilities without undue pressure to advance.

Abilities

Our program enhances several key skills:

  • ★ Visual and auditory memorization
  • ★ Identification and Association
  • ★ Discrimination
  • ★ Understanding
  • ★ Literacy

Options

From the home screen, users can:

  • - Enable/Disable background music
  • - Play full screen

Within the Tikis menus, additional customization options include:

  • - Changing the font to uppercase, lowercase, or cursive handwriting
  • - Enabling/Disabling automatic activity, which shifts to a new game after a set number of exercises
  • - Shuffling syllables for varied practice

Achievements

Up to three profiles (avatars) can be created to track different children's progress, including their performance at each level, correct and incorrect answers, and a fruit-based representation of their achievements.

Fruits serve as a playful motivator for continued engagement. Once collected in the basket, children can distribute them to little aliens. For a detailed view of progress, press the reports button on the Tikis screen.
